Our frequently asked questions. Have another? Get in Touch
Yes it is. Unlike a water softener, the AQUABION does not add Sodium to the water. It also doesn’t remove the naturally occurring minerals that are found in hard water and that are good for our diet. The water is still perfectly safe for the whole family to drink, including babies.
The size of the domestic units are:
The S15 is 120mm long and is best for homes that use 1-2 showers at a time and/or have a 15mm mains.
The S20 is 180mm long and is best for homes that use 2-5 showers at the same time. The S20 should not be installed on 15mm mains, unless discussed with AQUABION prior to installation.
OVERSIZING WILL RESULT IN REDUCED PERFORMANCE.
If you have cleaned the old limescale from your kettle, then on the hole what you now have is soft lime which, will mostly just brush off. The soft lime will not keep building up in the same way as it did before. Acids will of course still dissolve the soft lime but so much of it will now just brush off.
Go on, give it a go! This will show you that your limescale problems are over.
You should have it installed at the same time, as this will keep the costs down for you, it usually takes only 1-2hrs to install.
Hard water leaves hard limescale hence the name- hard water. Hard water also has a number of other effects, some of which are listed below:
- Limescaling of heating elements (increased heating costs)
- Stops soap suds forming (spending more money on products)
- Cleaning takes longer and involves aggressive chemicals (costs your time and money)
Never oversize as this will reduce the performance. For domestic applications best stick to this rule.. If you use one shower at a time install the S15. If you use two to four showers at the same time install the S20. However, If your incoming mains is 15mm, in most cases, we would recommend the S15.
We have looked at the other water softeners/conditioners and we haven’t come across one independent test report that you can see or download. Our solution is proven to prevent limescale build up and you can find the independent test results to prove it, located on the test results and articles section pages on our website.
Yes! The AQUABION is proven to stop the effects of hard water and prevent limescale.
No, the units have been thoroughly tested and will only reduce the flow rate if a smaller version has been fitted than we recommended. However, never oversize the units as this will reduce the performance. Visit What size AQUABION do I need?
Put simply, the Zinc reacts with the scale. Now the scale has reacted it will not react again, and revert to its old form. Download our independent test reports to show you that it does work. Or you can read more about how our saltless water conditioner works.
No, Aquabion doesn’t protect any products that use steam.
Koi are very sensitive to Zinc. So we recommend you do not fill your pond with treated water. As a human you you can safely drink up to 5 ppm. Koi can only cope with 0.005ppm!
No, they are very easy to install and the only rules are; install into metal (eg copper) pipework (at least the length of the unit either side), and always install the earthing cable and straps included in the pack, as per the instructions.
The unit should be installed straight after the stop tap so the whole house is protected.
This is because as the water dries on the surface the soft lime becomes visible. BUT it will clean off now with a quick wipe of a cloth, without the need for scrubbing or harsh cleaning chemicals.
This is because the Zinc does taste nice and you still have the beneficial minerals from your water.
Some manufactures of dishwashers state you must not connect them to a water softener. As Aquabion is a water conditioner there is no problem with connecting the treated water to the dishwasher. Over softening could cause damage to your dishwasher.
You must use salt in the dishwasher and the settings can be programmed to your normal water hardness setting as most people do not want non adhering lime on the dishes.
Yes, you will only get a very thin layer of soft limescale which continually gets replaced. Shower heads may need a quick brush once or twice a year.
Yes, the AQUABION will reduce limescale buildup, and the old limescale will slowly be eroded by the soft limescale. Timescale will depend on how your water is heated.
There are no moving parts to go wrong. The Zinc will just slowly wear out, so we recommend replacement every 7 years to ensure you maintain the protection. The replacement is very quick and straight-forward and takes just 30 minutes typically. However, the product comes with a 5 year warranty, for peace of mind.
Potentially. As long as it is down to limescale it will get better, depending on your water flow.
No! The Aquabion can be installed vertically or horizontally.
Your local plumber will be able to quickly do this. Just please mention the earthing kit must be used, there are no exceptions to this rule, as per our installation instructions, which are included in the box.
AQUABION units are effective in all WATER temperatures BUT has NO effect at any steam temperature. This is because the reaction between the calcium and zinc is reversed as the steam is generated. This is also true when the water is held at near 100ºC such as in an instant boiling water tap.
Aquabion does help with instant boiling water taps. However, it is only around 50% effective. This is because the water is held near to 100 ºC so near to the point where water is about to turn to steam. There is so much energy at this point so that the Aragonite which the Aquabion has created starts to reverse. It is very hard to know how effective it will be as it does depend on models and settings as well as the usage patterns. We say around 50% as this was the result of a test by a leading manufacturer of these devices in a very hard water area.
