Why limescale is such a problem?
We are daily reminded that we are using too much energy. We should switch appliances off when not in use. We should increase the insulation in our homes, fit double glazing and so on.
Water softeners however as long as they are proven to work and don’t use a lot of resources are a very green way of reducing our carbon footprint. Why? |

There are three areas where limescale increases your carbon footprint.
1. Increase in energy costs. Just 1.6mm of limescale in hot water heating systems causes 12% increase in energy costs. This is due to the insulation effect of limescale
2. Life span of showers, washing machines, immersion heaters etc are reduced. The reason these appliances fail prematurely is linked to the increase in energy costs. The elements are insulated by the limescale, so they are on longer and get hotter. In some parts of the UK electric showers need replacing or repairing every year, solely down to limescale!

3. The amount of chemicals needed to clean clothes, the house and even you is doubled in hard water areas. This may seam like a purely cost saving point to make, however, chemical manufacture uses masses of resources.
