The following online test is designed to enhance your knowledge of the aquabion range. once you have completed the test, you should be in a better position to sell the product and answer questions from your customers.
every 3 months we will randomly pick one person who has completed the test and they will receive a free aquabion unit for their home.
good luck!
Installation
Bonding
Bonding is essential for the functioning of the unit. Lots of salespeople try to mislead installers that their product is the same as AQUABION but does not need earthing. This can’t be true. If their unit was working on the Galvanic principle then they would need to earth the pipework as well. The galvanic principle means that a small amount of electricity is created as the small amount of Zinc is released. If there is no electricity, then there is no Zinc being released.
Electrolytic and Galvanic water conditioners. What’s the difference:
Electrolytic = electrical energy into chemical energy.
Galvanic = chemical energy into electrical energy.
Positioning
To achieve the best results, the positioning of the AQUABION is important. Best practice requires a 5m run of pipework between AQUABION and the first critical appliance (ie boiler), this is only necessary in Commercial applications. Domestically we recommend the further the better, however 5m is not crucial. This is because Zinc and Calcium keep reacting in the pipework for up to 10m after treated water has passed through the unit.
Plastic pipework
AQUABION can be installed inline with plastic pipework but the unit must still be bonded to metallic pipework. Modification should be made to include metallic pipework, the length of the unit, at both ends so bonding can be achieved.
Secondary returns (domestic hot water returns)
You must have a second unit installed after the pump. This is because a small amount of the treated water may be broken apart in the pump.
Sizing
Selecting the correct size AQUABION for your application is critical. Oversizing could have an effect on the patented self cleaning technology inside the unit, which can result in reduction of overall performance. AQUABIONs unique design patent keeps the Zinc anode clean and free from fouling, which has always been the achilles heel for electrolytic inline scale reducers. Once the Zinc inside has fouled, the unit will no longer perform. An unfortunate fact is there is a history of oversizing large houses and commercial buildings.
This is why Aquabion spends so much time ensuring the correct size units are correctly specified in commercial applications. In commercial buildings, flow rates should always be considered and not only the diameter size of the pipework. If in doubt, we recommend using a non invasive flow meter to monitor both normal flow rates and flow rates at peak time.
Various properties can be sized in different ways. For example, a commercial building such as a sports club or gym would need to be sized to suit every shower head being used at the same time. If we size other buildings in the same way, it would result in oversizing which can lead to many problems, such as a reduction in performance and unnecessary expense. AQUABION can only be made liable for oversizing if AQUABION has been involved with sizing the application or the rules that are followed.
If in doubt, contact AQUABION, who will be more than happy to advise.
It should go without saying, if you have read the above we don’t recommend sizing the unit based on the size of the incoming main supply.
Sizing houses
If a domestic property uses 1 (occasionally 2) shower heads at a time then the S15 is the best unit for this application. This would allow for someone to flush a toilet and turn on taps (other than a bath tap) at the same time, with minimal pressure loss.
If the property uses 2-5 shower heads which are being used at the same time then the S20 is the best unit, unless you are on a 15mm supply with great water pressure, in this case the S15 could be considered.
Please remember with Aquabion smaller is better. In Denmark 100’s of houses have a D10 (10mm Aquabion) on the mains to their house and there are no complaints regarding loss of pressure.
For large 6+ bathroom properties, please contact us so we can help size the Aquabion. This will often involve reducing the mains, but we promise the users will not see any negative effects and have never had any complaints when we have recommended this.
